Since its inception, ITC Sangeet Research Academy has nursed and promoted talents in Hindustani vocal music only. Instrumental talents in this part of the country being no less in number, the Academy turned its attention to this field as well and on March 1, 2002, the Instrumental Division was introduced. It is headed by Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta, the eminent sarod maestro, who has been associated with ITC-SRA for many years as a member of its Expert Committee. Pandit Dasgupta trains students on the sitar and sarod. As of January 2011, the Instrumental Division has been enriched by the presence of Pandit Partha Chatterjee, sitar maestro.
